Coinciding with the launch of the new OnePlus 7T, OnePlus has also announced its highly-anticipated OnePlus TV. The device is the first gadget the company has produced outside of smartphones and accessories like headphones.
Why should you care about the OnePlus TV? For a few reasons, actually. It’s a 55-inch 4K TV with a QLED panel that supports inky blacks and vibrant colors. Inside, the TV packs eight speakers that, together, create a 50-watt setup which should be enough for some pretty sweet surround sound. OnePlus says the TV comes with Dolby Atmos support, which is always nice.
Installed on the OnePlus TV is Android TV with the company’s custom skin on top. It isn’t clear if the company added any exclusive features to the TV that you can’t find on other Android TV sets, but I’ll let you know when that information becomes available.
OnePlus is also including what appears to be a pretty sleek remote with a few different functions like a Google Assistant button. If you don’t wanna use it, you can use the OnePlus Connect app on your phone.
In a nutshell, this is a traditional TV with what will likely be a nice screen, good software, and plenty of IO. In other words, there’s nothing entirely crazy here.
We don’t have pricing or availability information yet, but we do know OnePlus will launch the TV exclusively in India first. CEO Pete Lau has stated in the past that the TV will eventually come to other territories like North America and Europe, although it isn’t clear when that time will come.
