Back at CES 2019, Dish announced it would add direct integration of the Google Assistant to its TV receivers. Today, that announcement has finally come to fruition as the company is now beginning to roll out an update to its set-top-boxes that adds the Assistant to your TV.
To use the Assistant, you interact with Dish’s voice remote the same way you always have. Just hold down the microphone button to talk. But because you have the Google Assistant, you’ll be able to ask questions, check the weather, control smart home devices, play music, and more. Essentially, with the software update, your Dish receiver will turn your TV into a gigantic Google Home.
According to Dish, all generations of the Hopper, Joey, and Wally will be receiving the Assistant in the coming days and weeks. A Google-branded voice remote is available to those who don’t have a voice remote for free.
