A new report out of Android Police claims to shed light on a couple of details surrounding Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 10 smartphone. The report states that there will be two versions of the Note, one bigger than the other. And oddly enough, neither will have a headphone jack or physical buttons.
We’ll get to the former later because the latter is so interesting. We’ve seen phones omit physical buttons before, and it didn’t end well. It isn’t clear what Samsung’s alternative will be. What we do know is the company will get rid of the power, volume, and Bixby keys with the Note 10, according to Android Police, and one possible solution could be a touch- or pressure-sensitive frame. This would make the Note 10 better resistant to water, but it probably won’t provide as satisfying an experience over clicky buttons.
Then there’s the headphone jack which has been disappearing on phones for the past three years. Despite Samsung making fun of other manufacturers for dropping the port, it looks like the company will follow in their footsteps by axing it on the Note 10. Of course, Samsung could just include a pair of USB-C earbuds in the box (the same way they include 3.5mm buds now) which would help make the transition to USB-C and Bluetooth easier for a lot of people. But like I said, nothing’s clear just yet, leaving us with more questions than answers.
We’re around three months away from the Note 10 debuting if past Galaxy Note announcements dates are anything to go by. Therefore, you’ll want to stay tuned this summer as new details emerge.
