Back in February, Sony made headlines when it unveiled its latest flagship device, the Xperia 1. It wasn’t interesting to hear about just because it’s Sony 2019 flagship, but it made headlines because of its abnormal 21:9 4K OLED display. Optimal for watching movies, no manufacturer had done a screen of that caliber before it. Now, we’re hearing when you’ll be able to purchase this extra-tall smartphone.
According to Sony, the Xperia 1 will launch on July 12th, five months after it was initially unveiled. It’ll be priced at $949 which isn’t exactly cheap. The phone will be sold unlocked through Sony’s website, with no US carrier support in sight.
Sony hasn’t had the best of luck recently. Its smartphone sales have steadily declined year over year, and as a result, it’s had to cut its staff down quite a bit. Whether the Xperia 1 will change any of this is unclear, but let’s hope it does since otherwise, it could be one of Sony’s last.
