That was unexpected.

Google today released the first beta build of Android Q for testing, and to the surprise of many, it supports the Pixel and Pixel XL. Last year was supposed to conclude the round of major software updates these phones got, but due to popular demand, Google made an exception.

In other words, later this year, your first-gen Pixel will get an update to Android Q.

With Android Q, Google is introducing a number of features including better privacy features, more control over what apps can access certain features of your device, an improved share sheet, and more. We’ll be sure to dig into all the Android Q goodness as soon as we install the beta on our Pixel 3 XL. Stay tuned!
