Samsung Reveals New Galaxy Watch Active

Today during their event, Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy Watch Active. The device has been rumored for quite some time at this point, and it’s finally been made official. Here’s what you need to know.

With the Galaxy Watch Active, you get a relatively slim and compact form factor. Samsung says it weighs just 25 grams and is 10.5mm thick. It features a 1.1-inch 360×360 AMOLED round display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.an Exynos 9110 dual-core processor, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, and a special Tizen-based Wearable OS. No Google Wear OS here, folks.

The watch has a clear focus on fitness, so Samsung includes plenty of workout-friendly features. for instance, it comes with a heart rate sensor, automatic workout tracking, a stress tracker, and blood pressure monitoring. For durability, Samsung includes IP68 and 5ATM certification along with Military Grade 810-G protection.

To charge the watch, Samsung opts for WPC-based wireless charging. The Galaxy Watch Active will obviously come with its own charger, but if you forget it at home, you might be stuck as there aren’t a lot of WPC wireless chargers out there.

In addition, Samsung says the Galaxy Watch Active comes with some third-party apps pre-installed such as Under Armour, Spotify, and Strava. You also get (wait for it) Bixby voice capabilities. If that last feature means anything to you, please let me know.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Watch Active will cost $199.99 and launch on March 8th. Pre-orders go up tomorrow, February 21st. Four color options are available: black, silver, rose gold, and sea green.
