Motorola has begun rolling out Android Pie to the mid-range, unlocked Moto Z3 Play in the United States. This marks the company’s first big rollout of Android 9.0. It comes before the regular Z3 and any of the Z2 devices from 2017 receive the new software.
Motorola includes an entire suite of release notes for the upgrade which you can read here. In short, you get all the normal Pie stuff like better notifications, updated emojis, an improved screenshot experience, adaptive battery, and new navigation gestures. There also isn’t a lot of extra unnecessary software since Moto keeps its port of Android relatively clean and minimal.
To install the update, you can either wait for the OTA to hit your device via a notification or by visiting Settings > System > System updates. Be sure to connect to a stable Wi-Fi network and a power outlet before installing the upgrade so you don’t run into an interruptions during the process.
