Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 712 Chip w/ Faster Charging, Better Performance

Qualcomm seems to always be churning out new processors. This week, we’re getting yet another one from the company. Called the Snapdragon 712, the chipset serves as a successor to last year’s 710 which introduced a new range of mobile processors. The series slots between the existing flagship 800 series and the mid-range 600 series. The 700 processors aren’t mid-range, but they still come up short when qualifying as flagship.

For the 712, Qualcomm is making some minor improvements. The chip is built on a 10 nm process and offers a 10 percent increase in performance. The new chipset runs at a clockspeed of 2.3GHz, slightly faster than the 710’s 2.2GHz.

In terms of added features, there are a few worth mentioning. For one, you get support Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 4.0+, allowing up to a 50 percent charge in as little as 15 minutes when implemented properly. You also get some enhanced audio performance, with support for TrueWireless Stereo Plus and Broadcast Audio. there are also some improvements to Bluetooth, so you should be able to expect a strong connection between your phone and your headphones thanks to the 712.

In addition, Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 712 has up to 35 percent faster graphics support, the same X15 LTE modem, and better efficiency for longer battery life.

It’s not immediately clear when we can expect the first phone to ship with a Snapdragon 712, but some devices from Nokia, Xiaomi, and Oppo launched with the 710 last year. Therefore, we can probably expect these companies and more to include the updated processor in enhanced versions of their phones which should start shipping in 2019.
