LG recently confirmed it would release a 5G phone at an event during MWC 2019 on February 24th. The thing is, however, no one seems to know exactly what the company will be announcing. Usually, in the first half of the year, LG will release a G series device (we’re still expecting the G8 at this event, by the way) and wait until the second half to release a V series phone. But as it turns out, the company might shake things up for 2019.
According to a new report out of ETNews, LG’s mysterious 5G phone might be the V50. This would mark the first time the company released a G series and V series phone at the same time. But considering the fact LG has never done this before, I would take this news with a grain of salt.
That being said, it would make sense for the device to be a V series phone. LG always utilizes its best features for its higher-end device lineup, and 5G connectivity would fit nicely in such a phone. Of course, the company could just release a special version of the G8 with 5G instead of just LTE, but ETNews suggests the G lineup will end with the standard G8 we’re already expecting. And instead of inventing a whole new device category, LG will reportedly just use its V moniker for the phone.
As for what the mysterious 5G V50 will feature, LG says it’ll come with a 6-inch display, a Snapdragon 855 processor, a 4,000mAh battery, and a vapor chamber cooling system for better heat management.
We’re still a few weeks away from LG’s event actually occurring so expect much more on the V50 and G8 in the near future.
