Apple’s 2019 iPhones Said to Come with Upgraded Face ID, 5G Compatibility Coming in 2020

We may’ve just gotten the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR not too long ago, but rumors are already starting to swirl regarding the next entries in the Cupertino company’s smartphone lineup.

According to well-known and credited analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors), Apple is expected to include an upgraded Face ID system with the 2019 iPhones. This falls in line with previous expectations that Apple would stick with the same system used in the iPhone X for this year’s models, while 2019 would see larger improvements in areas like reliability and speed. Specifically, the devices will come with a new flood illuminator which will better make our facial features hidden by invisible light within an environment.

Notably, Kuo also believes both the iPhone and iPad will eventually get a Time of Flight 3D camera, enabling much more immersive experiences on either device. However, that isn’t expected to come until maybe 2019 or 2020.

Speaking of 2020, another report suggests Apple will introduce 5G connectivity to the iPhone after next year wraps up. Fast Company says the iPhone may take advantage of the Intel 8161 5G modem to enable the feature. As of now, though, things remain iffy since there’s still some heating issues surrounding the chip inside the phone. Still, though, Apple will have all of 2019 and a good chunk of 2020 to iron out any bugs before the devices go on sale so I wouldn’t look too far into this issue.

Considering these types of reports are beginning to surface now, there’s a good chance even more rumors and speculations will make their way to the World Wide Web in the near future. Stay tuned for future updates.
