Qualcomm has unveiled a trio of brand-new Snapdragon-branded processors built to offer better smartphone experiences for less money. The new Snapdragon 429, 439, and 632 will begin shipping later this year.
Starting with the lower-tier hardware, the 429 and 439 improve upon the 425 and 430 with CPU performance and power efficiency up by 25 percent. They both include the X6 LTE modem for faster downloads and streaming times. Whereas the 439 is seeing an upgrade to the Adreno 505 GPU with 20 percent better graphics performance, the 429 is getting the Adreno 504 with up to 50 percent better graphics. Additionally, the 429 supports up to a single 16MP camera and dual 8MP sensors while the 439 supports the same type of dual cameras and up to a 21MP single shooter.
On the other hand, there’s the Snapdragon 632 which improves upon the 626. For this iteration, the chipset supports 4K video capture, AI features, and faster LTE speeds thanks to the X9 modem. You’ll find up to 40 percent faster performance between the CPU and Adreno 506 GPU, while a single 24MP camera or dual 13MP shooters can be included on devices with the processor installed.
All three chipsets are software-compatible, while the Snapdragon 429 and 439 are now pin-compatible so manufacturers don’t have to put in as much work to include them in their devices. We’ll likely hear more about these new processors in the months to come.
