Google’s AR-Powered Measure App Now Works on More Phones

Browse By

Google has updated its augmented reality-powered Measure for Android with support for phones with the company’s ARCore installed. This means the app works on devices including the Pixel, Galaxy S9, LG G7, Huawei P20, and more. Previously, the app was exclusive to users who had necessary Project Tango cameras installed. Now, however, it’s open to anyone who can run ARCore apps.

With the upgrade, Google has simplified the interface so you can measure either the length or height of something simply by dragging either tool onto the screen. It works relatively well although it isn’t as accurate as an actual tape measure. Then again, we’re probably a long time away from seeing this level of accuracy anyway so this factor can be excused.

If you’re interested in trying out the new Measure app, you can download it for free to your ARCore-compatible smartphone here. A full list of supported devices can be found on Google’s website.
