Google released the first developer preview of Android P today, and obviously, people are starting to tear the update to shreds to figure out all its secrets and port features to other versions of Android because fragmentation. Over at Droid-Life, they’ve taken the liberty of ripping the Pixel Launcher that comes installed in the developer preview and releasing it to the World Wide Web to enjoy.
Mind you, while there aren’t any life-changing new features, there are a few tweaks. For one, there’s a giant transparent shade at the bottom of the home screen which, I guess, is supposed to indicate you can swipe up from there to access the app drawer. Speaking of which, the app drawer also looks different, although I’m not sure if this is due to Android P being as new as it is or not.
I will say, I tried installing the APK on three devices: a Samsung Galaxy S8, a Moto Z2 Force, and an LG V30. Considering the V30 is running Nougat, the updated Pixel Launcher wouldn’t launch correctly. However, when I installed it on the S8 and Z2 that are both running Oreo, everything worked fine. Therefore, you’ll need Android 8.0+ on your device in order for this to work.
