LG has formally announced its new AI capabilities the company’s been developing that will debut on the “2018 version of the LG V30.” It’s been reported in the past that the company was working on new AI utilities and would debut them on an updated V30 at MWC 2018. Now, it looks like we know nearly everything about this project. Y’know, other than the phone itself.

According to a press release, LG is calling its new AI initiative Vision AI. It’s essentially a competitor to Samsung’s Bixby Vision and Google Lens in which it can identify different objects and provide links to more information about the product and where to buy it. You’ll also be able to scan QR codes right from within the camera app.

But that’s not all. According to LG, the new V30 will use AI algorithms to identify objects and adjust the camera’s settings to take the best photo possible. The company says its AI can recommend the best shooting mode from among eight different options: portrait, food, pet, landscape, city, flower, sunrise, and sunset. All sorts of things are taken into account during this process such as saturation, brightness, backlighting, and view. The company touts it partnered with someone to analyze over 100 million images to develop this feature.

Finally, LG will also be including new voice commands for using the camera. A total of 32 different commands will be capable of performing actions like taking a wide-angle photo or using the AI camera. Luckily, they also won’t be exclusive to the newer V30, as some will roll out to the current model via over-the-air software updates.

According to LG, the new V30 and its AI capabilities will be shown off at a booth at MWC 2018. We’ll be sure to bring you the latest as new information surfaces.
