Amazon has updated its Alexa app for Android (via TechCrunch) with the ability to use the voice assistant from an Echo to send SMS messages from your phone number. The feature needs to be enabled before you can do so by going into the app’s settings and flicking the switch to send SMS instead of standard messages. If you aren’t familiar, standard messages require both you and the recipient to have the Alexa app to communicate. However, by switching over to SMS, you can send texts to anyone in your contacts.

It’s worth mentioning there isn’t currently a way to use this feature with your iPhone. Right now, it remains unclear when Amazon will bring the feature to Apple’s iOS platform, but we’ll let you know when it happens.
