Apple’s 6.1-inch LCD iPhone May Not Ship with 3D Touch

Considering we’re just getting into 2018, it’s about time for new Apple rumors to start heating up. This time, we have additional information on those three iPhones KGI previously said would arrive as Apple’s lineup for 2018. And it looks like today’s news may be a bit surprising for some.

According to a report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via 9to5Mac), the upcoming 6.1-inch LCD iPhone, expected to arrive at a lower price than the other two handsets, may not ship with 3D Touch. Every iPhone since the iPhone 6s (with the exception of the SE) has shipped with the technology onboard so it would be an odd move for Apple to make. On the other hand, not many people use it anyhow, so I guess save money wherever you can, right?

The LCD-powered iPhone will also reportedly ship with an aluminum frame instead of stainless steel, pack 3GB of RAM, and sport a single rear camera instead of two. In a separate report out of China Times (via 9to5Mac), the phone will also include a cheaper thin-film touch panel over the standard plug-type touch panel that’s been used since the iPhone 5. It’s also said it’ll include an 18:9 aspect ratio, although this is pretty hard to believe since the current iPhone X has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Uniformity in this category is expected from Apple, so take this note with a grain of salt.

As for the more expensive OLED-powered iPhones, KGI says they’ll both include dual rear cameras and 4GB of RAM a pop. Of course, they’ll also ship with 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch screens. Other than these details, though, there’s still not much known about Apple’s next flagships.

Regarding pricing, the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone is said to cost somewhere in the ballpark of $700-800 which is significantly lower than what the current iPhone X costs. However, we’re expecting the more expensive iPhones to cost somewhere around the X’s $1,000 mark. We’ll have more on this when new information surfaces.

As things stand now, which of the three iPhones stands out to you?
