Tom Holland May Play Spider-Man in Upcoming Venom Movie After All

It feels like we’ve heard time and time again about how Spider-Man may play a role in Sony’s upcoming, potentially R-rated film Venom. With this question came speculation as to who would wear the red and blue tights. Currently, actor Tom Holland does, but for Marvel and it’s Cinematic Universe. But according to a new rumor, Holland may lend his acting skills over to Sony for its new film.

According to insider Jon Schnepp who sat down with Movie Talk for an interview, we’ll see Spider-Man in Venom come October. “Spider-Man is going to be in Venom,” he said. “For the last couple of months, we’ve been hearing how Sony is keeping it all separated, and Spider-Man is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but every other character that’s in the Spider-Man universe is separate. All I’m saying is that Spider-Man—and I’m talking about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man—is going to be in Venom.”

Whether this is true or not is arguable. Producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal have both said in the past this won’t happen, and even Holland has said so as well. But considering rumors like this keep popping up as often as they do, it’s really hard to say whether we’ll see Spidey in the new Venom movie played by arguably the best Spider-Man to adorn the silver screen.

And then you need to consider how big of a role he’d have. We’ve heard in the past Venom will take place as the main character and Spidey make a deal so the former doesn’t commit any more crimes, so that could mean a potential cameo from our friendly neighborhood web-slinger. But then again, they could also just hint at the meeting during the film. Or, ya know, something crazy could happen and Holland could swing in and fight alongside Venom at some point. Seriously, who knows?

For now, there are too many questions up in the air to place bets and assume things. We’ll have to wait and see what happens when Venom hits theaters October 5th this year.
