NextRadio, an FM radio app, has announced a new partnership with Samsung that will see the company’s future smartphones including an activated FM radio chip for receiving free FM signals. This means you’ll be able to listen to FM radio on your Samsung smartphone. Right now, this remains impossible since the company doesn’t activate the FM chip in phones like the Galaxy S8.

Samsung phone models in the US and Canada will be capable of using NextRadio to tune into free radio stations and receive FM signals for emergency situations, a safety step that many OEMs are urged to take. Already, some manufacturers activate the FM chip in their phones, including Motorola, LG, and HTC. Now, Samsung will be joining that shortlist.

It’s unclear if Samsung’s Galaxy S9 will mark the first phone to support NextRadio, but we should know soon since the device will be unveiled next month during MWC.
