Apple Fixes Spectre Vulnerability in Safari with iOS 11 and macOS 10.13 Updates

Browse By

Apple today began rolling out iOS 11.2.2 to all iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches alongside a supplementary update to macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 for Macs to resolve the Spectre vulnerability in Safari which was discovered earlier this month. The bug seems to affect multiple devices on the market including nearly every Apple device. Therefore, it’ll be worth downloading as soon as you receive the update notification on your device.

To install the new iOS update on your device, head over to Settings > General > Software Update. Tap “Download and install” next to the iOS 11.2.2 listing and you’ll be good to go. I recommend jumping on a Wi-Fi network first alongside plugging in your device beforehand as a) you don’t want data overcharges on your bill and b) you don’t want your phone or tablet to die during the installation process.

To install the macOS update, head over to the “Updates” tab in the App Store and check for updates. There, you’ll find the new software ready to install on your computer. Just click the “Update” button next to the macOS High Sierra update listing and restart your Mac. The process may take a little while, so be patient and don’t turn off your Mac manually if you don’t have to.
