Apple Fixes iPhone X Cold Weather Issues with iOS 11.1.2 Release

Apple’s iPhone X was previously subject to criticism from users due to its display locking up simply because of a drop in temperatures. Apple immediately released a statement to acknowledge the odd issue and said they’d release a software update to fix things. Today, that software update has arrived in the form of iOS 11.1.2 which can be downloaded by all iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users.

Here’s the update’s release notes:

iOS 11.1.2 includes bug fixes for your iPhone and iPad. This update:

  • Fixes an issue where the iPhone X screen becomes temporarily unresponsive to touch after a rapid temperature drop
  • Addresses an issue that could cause distortion in Live Photos and videos captured with iPhone X

There’s clearly not much new, but at least that weird bug has been squashed.

To install the update on your device, head over to Settings > General > Software Update. Tap “Download and install” next to the iOS 11.1.2 listing and you’ll be good to go. I recommend jumping on a Wi-Fi network first alongside plugging in your device beforehand as a) you don’t want data overcharges on your bill and b) you don’t want your phone or tablet to die during the installation process.
