Developers Need to Wait for DP2 of Android 8.1 to Test Pixel Visual Core

Developers jumped on the very first beta build of Android 8.1 Oreo hard last week as it was initially guessed Google’s Pixel Visual Core hardware chipset would be enabled. However, the processor, which lets more complex and third-party HDR+ processes initiate and run their course, was unfortunately not enabled and was held off. Rather, the Visual Core will be enabled with the second developer preview of Android 8.1, as it reads on Android’s developers’ website as first spotted by Ron Amadeo on Twitter.

Right now, it remains unknown as to when Google will release the next developer build of Android 8.1, but we expect it to be soon. When it hits, developers will be able to better utilize the different technologies inside Google’s Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. In a nutshell, expect a lot better third-party camera apps on the Play Store soon, just not as soon as we had originally hoped.
