Google’s set to launch its newest smartphones on October 19 known as the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Not only do they bring new hardware, fresh cameras, and a ton of new features, but there’s also new software on board. And if you’ve met anyone in the Android community, you know the Pixel 2’s software experience tends to get mimicked at any given moment, whether via third-party launchers or ported APKs from the Pixel itself.
Whelp, luckily, for those looking for the Pixel 2’s software experience, Android Police has been able to rip the Pixel Launcher from the new device and upload the APK to APK Mirror. And as we did last year, we installed the APK on one of our test devices to check things out.
For starters, when launching the new Pixel Launcher, you’ll immediately notice the search widget directly below the app dock. Tapping this brings up a search field which looks and acts the same way as it does on last year’s Pixel Launcher. You’ll also notice the new At a Glace widget at the top of the screen which displays calendar events and weather information. Swiping up from the bottom of the home screen will bring up the app drawer which received some design tweaks this time around including a transparent background. Additionally, for those who install this APK as a system app, you’ll be granted permission to the Google Now pane off to the left of your home screen.
While there isn’t that much new in the latest Pixel Launcher, it’s always nice to have the latest and greatest on your own device. AP says the launcher should work on devices running Lollipop 5.0 and above, so if you wanna give it a swing on your own handset, click here.
