Google today seeded those with Pixel and Nexus-branded devices with the October 2017 security patch. Two different security levels are rolling out with one labeled 2017-10-01 and the other 2017-10-05. As is the case with every security patch, there’s various fixes between the two patches with the most critical being more patches for Android’s media framework.

While Pixel and Nexus devices are seeing this month’s security patch starting today, not all Android users will notice it immediately on their phone. Google usually takes about a week or two to fully roll out security patches, but by upgrading your phone to Android 8.0 Oreo, you should see the update sooner than you might think. For all other Android users with devices from OEMs like Samsung, LG, Moto, and HTC, you probably have a lengthy wait ahead of you since the patch needs to pass through not only your device’s manufacturer but also your carrier.

If you’re sitting impatiently with your Pixel or Nexus in hand, you can download the October security patch factory images here and the OTA images here.
