Apple Releases GM Seeds of iOS 11, macOS High Sierra, tvOS 11, and watchOS 4 to Developers

During their live event today in Cupertino, Apple announced the availability of the Gold Master seeds of iOS 11, macOS High Sierra, tvOS 11, and watchOS 4 for developers. This comes after months of betas being seeded to both developers and public beta testers. Speaking of which, the latter can expect this same build tomorrow.

iOS 11 packs a revamped Control Center, redesigned notifications, improvements to Siri including an all-new voice, Do Not Disturb While Driving, and an all-new interface for the iPad with better productivity features, a macOS-style Dock, and a new multitasking view. There’s even an official Files app for all iOS devices that lets you access files stored on your device without having to hunt down a third-party service to do so.

To install the GM seed, head over to Settings > General > Software Update. Tap “Download and install” next to the iOS 11 GM listing and you’ll be good to go. I recommend jumping on a Wi-Fi network first alongside plugging in your device beforehand as a) you don’t want data overcharges on your bill and b) you don’t want your phone or tablet to die during the installation process.

macOS High Sierra includes the Apple File System to make using your Mac faster, Metal 2 with native VR support, updates to Siri including all-new voices, autoplay blocking in Safari, and support for external GPUs you may wanna hook up for heavy workloads or intense games.

To install the build, head over to the “Updates” tab in the App Store and check for updates. There, you’ll find the GM seed ready to install. Just click the “Update” button next to the macOS High Sierra 10.13 GM listing and restart your Mac. The process may take a little while, so be patient and don’t turn off your Mac manually if you don’t have to.

tvOS 11 includes minor improvements but will bring the Amazon Prime Video app to the Apple TV alongside scheduled dark and light modes for viewing times. If your set-top-box is registered for preview builds of the OS, head over to Settings > System > Software Updates > Update Software and hit the download button.

watchOS 4 includes new watch faces, improvements to fitness tracking, and more. If your Apple Watch is registered under a Developer account, navigate to the Watch app on your paired iPhone and tap the “My Watch” tab. From there, go to General > Software Update and you should see the build ready for download. Be sure to place your iPhone on Wi-Fi while downloading this software as it’ll surely gobble up plenty of your data.

All of these updates will be released on September 19th for free to the public. macOS High Sierra, however, won’t become available until September 25th.
