We previously learned HTC’s flagship smartphone, the U11, already had the necessary hardware for Bluetooth 5 to operate, although the device ships with Bluetooth 4.2. Now, we’re receiving confirmation from HTC themselves that this is indeed the case and in the future, the U11 will receive the latest version of Bluetooth.

Specifically, the U11 will gain Bluetooth 5 when Android O becomes available for the device in the future. It remains unclear exactly when this will happen, but last year’s unlocked HTC 10 received Android Nougat in November so we may be just a matter of a few months away from the update. For now, users of the handset anxiously waiting for the technology to become available to them will have to sit and be patient.
