Apple’s HomePod Confirms Apple TV with 4K and HDR is Coming

Back in February, Bloomberg reported that Apple was currently developing a new-generation Apple TV with 4K output and HDR support. It’s been pretty much radio silent since then, but now iOS developer Guilhereme Rambo has found hints at the upgraded set-top-box within the Apple HomePod firmware, something that seems to be a goldmine as of late.

MacRumors editor Joe Rossignol also points out that the same codename noted in Bloomberg’s report is also quoted in the firmware’s code, leading to further speculation that this fifth-generation Apple TV is indeed coming.

We still don’t have confirmation this upgraded streaming box is coming, but all signs at this point are pointing to yes. It remains unclear as to when Apple may announce the device, but it could be at their big September event where the iPhone 8, 7s, 7s Plus, and Apple Watch Series 3 will be unveiled.
