A new FCC filing by HTC spotted by Ausdroid indicates the company’s U11 flagship may be gaining a new feature. A future software update for the device will boost its Bluetooth 4.2 version to 5.0, meaning the device already has the hardware necessary for the next-gen Bluetooth standard to operate. It just needs to be enabled software-wise.

Other flagship devices that launched this year like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and OnePlus 5 have the new Bluetooth standard onboard. It’s unclear why HTC didn’t introduce the U11 with the technology as a headlining feature, but I guess they had to save something to spice things up after the phone launched to keep it in the news. Hey HTC, it’s working.
