A couple of years ago, the Santa Fe Opera announced they were arranging an opera based on the life of the late Steve Jobs who died nearly six years ago. The show would be entitled The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs and open with the launch of the first iPhone back in 2007. Now, we have official premiere dates and times for the opera.

As per the Santa Fe Opera’s website, The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs will premiere Saturday, July 22nd. Tickets can be bought here. It’ll run through August, while it’ll also have a limited run in San Francisco and Seattle. The music has been composed by Mason Bates with a libretto by Mark Campbell. Edward Parks plays Jobs while Garrett Sorenson will take the role of Steve Wozniak. Further, Sasha Cooke will play Laurene Powell Jobs.

A description of how The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs was published to the Santa Fe Opera’s site which describes how the character Bates developed for his opera looks to highlight a side of Jobs we’ve never seen before.

He was brilliant, enigmatic and contradictory. His face was on billboards and in magazines, his products in our pockets. But when the opera The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs receives its world premiere at The Santa Fe Opera in July 2017, it will illuminate a side of Steve Jobs that we’ve never seen before. It will do so as only an opera could.

Brilliant yet unknowable, Steve Jobs possessed a vision that seemed limitless. But only as his own life was ending did he find the means to look within himself. “In fact, Jobs’ search for inner peace is the story of the opera – which, in a sentence, is about a man who learns to be human again,” says composer Mason Bates.

Sample music of the opera can be found over on SoundCloud.
