Android TV to Receive New Launcher, Google Assistant Later This Year

On stage today during the opening I/O 2017 keynote address, Google announced that Android TV will receive a new launcher interface and the Google Assistant later this year. If things fall into place like they have in the past, we can expect these features to land this summer.

Dave Burke, Google’s VP of engineering for Android, said there’s now over 3,000 Android TV apps available for download from the Play Store which is a big deal for Google’s television platform. Not many manufacturers have been adopting the company’s rival to Apple’s tvOS and Amazon’s Fire TV, so hopefully, with these new additions, things will grow like the number of apps and the adoption rate.
