2016’s Deadpool was a major hit. With the mixture of Ryan Reynold’s portrayal of the character and the crude/adulterated humor to score an R-rating, the film went over extremely well with audiences. So what’s the next step after such major success? You obviously take the character and turn it into a cartoon.
As announced by Marvel themselves, the Merc with a Mouth is getting his own adult-oriented cartoon on FXX. The network has ordered a 10-episode season of the untitled series that will be written, executive produced and showran by Donald Glover and his brother, Steven. If you recall, Donald Glover is a Golden Globe-winning actor who stars in and produces FX’s current highest-rated show ever, Atlanta. Nick Grad, co-president of original programming for FX, believes Glover will be a perfect fit for the show.
“Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta,” said Grad. “With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.”
Right now, there are many uncertainties. For one, we don’t know whether Reynolds will be involved with the series or not. It would be great if he were, however. Plus, we’re not sure if it’ll tie in with the rest of the Marvel universe. We’re really just gonna have to wait to find out these facts and more.
The currently-unnamed Deadpool series is expected to premiere some time on FXX in 2018.
