Deadpool 2 and Two New X-Men Films Will Be Released Next Year

A new report out of The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Marvel’s upcoming sequel to 2016’s Deadpool (possibly titled Deadpool 2) will hit theaters June 1st, 2018. In other words, Deadpool 2 will be a summer blockbuster, the perfect setup for a film that grossed more than $132 million during an opening weekend in February.

We received our first glimpse at what the future will bestow for Deadpool in a teaser that played before the Wolverine-oriented film Logan. Ryan Reynolds portrayed him just as well as he did for 2016’s feature film, so expect another excellent performance in Deadpool 2 as well.

You should also expect lots of R-rated jokes that probably aren’t appropriate for younger audiences. This is what earned the first Deadpool film it’s high grossing, so I wouldn’t imagine Marvel cleaning things up for the second installment.

Finally, Cable is also making his way into Deadpool 2 to face off with Reynolds. The villain is expected to be portrayed by Josh Brolin.

In addition to this news, THR also reports that two new films also taking place in the X-Men universe will be released in 2018 as well. X-Men: Dark Phoenix, a follow-up to 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, will hit theaters November 2nd, 2018 while New Mutants, a film that’ll feature a younger team of heroes, will debut April 13th, 2018. Not much more is known about these two films, but we should learn more soon.
