Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Will Use Google Play Music as the Default Music App

Google and Samsung today announced a new partnership to kick off the launch date of the Galaxy S8. In a blog post, the companies said the default music player on the S8 will be Google’s own Play Music. There’s also some exclusive features specifically for S8 buyers that we’ll get to in a second…

Starting today with the launch of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+, Google Play Music will be the default music player and music service on new Samsung phones and tablets globally. We’re also collaborating with Samsung to create special features in Google Play Music just for Samsung customers.

First of all, users will be able to store twice as many songs in their cloud. This means that users can upload up to 100,000 of their own tracks to Play Music for streaming later. Secondly, a free three-month trial of Google Play Music and YouTube Red comes out of the box with every S8 and S8+. Finally, in the near future, Samsung will allow its Bixby voice assistant to interact with Play Music as the Korean company and Google have partnered to deliver this functionality. It’s unclear exactly what you’ll be able to do with Play Music and Bixby besides tell it to play a song, but one thing’s for certain: we probably won’t see it for a little while.

By having Play Music the default music app on the S8, Samsung can rid their flagship Galaxies of an otherwise not necessary application (in other words, Samsung’s homemade music app). Users will surely appreciate this factor as it’ll give them more room to keep other apps, games, and (obviously) music. It’s also just an overall nice perk for buying such an expensive phone – I mean, this thing starts at $720. That’s pretty high up there.

Did you order a Galaxy S8 or S8+?
