Google Rolls Out Android 7.1.2 Nougat to Pixel and Nexus Devices w/ April Security Patch

Google today released Android 7.1.2 Nougat to Pixel and Nexus devices after the update went through a two-beta process. Today also brings the April security patch which is also rolling out.

Android 7.1.2 is basically a maintenance update with bug fixes and security improvements, but in the case of the Pixel C, things are different. For starters, users are getting a new Pixel Launcher specifically designed for tablets alongside white navigation keys much like what’s found on the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. The company has also included the same gray and blue color scheme we find on Google’s 2016 handsets, while a fresh recent apps menu is also present. It’s about time Google unified their Pixel lineup into a premium product range with their own software benefits rather having two Pixel products and treating them differently, so I think many users will appreciate the changes made.

Also found in Android 7.1.2 are fingerprint gestures support for the Nexus 6 and improved fingerprint swipe performance, Bluetooth fixes, audio popping resolutions, early battery shutdown repairs, and pink camera banding patches for the Pixel.

As for the security patch, there’s two tiers currently rolling out respectively labeled 2017-04-01 and 2017-04-05. The most critical fixes in the patches include vulnerabilities which could allow for remote code execution in Mediaserver and the Broadcom Wi-Fi firmware. In total, there’s 60 fixes between the two patches.
