Snapchat Now Lets You Search for Stories

It seems that nowadays Stories are dominating every social media platform (I bet $100 Twitter is next), but once in a while we have to pay our respects to the founder of the method of sharing photos and videos throughout our days, Snapchat, who today announced the ability to search for stories in their mobile apps for iOS and Android. It uses machine learning to analyze and identify different elements within stories like text, color, and objects. For instance, if you wanted the story from the Clippers game, just search “basketball” or “Clippers” and it’ll come up. If you wanna view stories with puppies in them, just look up “puppies.”

We’ve built a new way to understand what’s happening in Snaps that are submitted to Our Story, and to create new Stories using advanced machine learning. The results have been amazing: you can search over one million unique Stories on Snapchat!

In addition to our professionally curated Stories, you can watch a local basketball game, check out the scene at your favorite bar, view your favorite Fashion Week shows, get inspired by a faraway place, or simply tap through a Story full of puppies — there’s a Story for everything!

Mind you, these stories must be uploaded to Snapchat’s Our Story group in order to be searchable, so don’t think you can just go search for anyone’s story and view it. But with a feature like this introduced today, you can expect the same thing to reach Facebook and Instagram in a number of days.
