FreedomPop Made a $75 Phone That Comes with a Free Data Plan

FreedomPop is known as the service that offers free data, calls, and texts each month based on a Bring Your Own Device principal while also offering some third-party options if you’re in need of a better device. The company’s never done something like this before, but it looks like the company wants to shake up their device offerings by introducing their own phone called the V7. Mind you, this phone is only €59 (roughly $75 in USD), so you won’t be getting high-end flagship specs.

That being said, the V7 does pack a little heat at least to compensate the price. It offers a 5-inch 720p display, Android Marshmallow, a Snapdragon 210 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, a 13MP rear camera, and a removable 2100mAh battery. All of this comes in a package measuring in at 8.2mm thin, so at least you won’t be carrying around a brick just to get free data.

Speaking of which, this is where the biggest catch of using a free data plan comes into play. With FreedomPop’s bottom-line plan, you’ll have access to 200MB of data each month, 200 texts, and 200 minutes of calls. Of course, the mobile virtual network operator offers upgraded plans if you need more minutes and data each month, but this is what you get if you don’t feel like paying a carrier bill each month.

For now, the V7 is only available in the UK and Spain, but there’s reportedly plans to bring it to the US at some point. We’ll let you know when that happens.
