Want Amazon Alexa on Your Mac? There’s an App For That

Amazon Alexa is everywhere nowadays. It’s on your fridge, in your coffee maker – heck, it practically owns your home at this point. But in one of the most likely of places (your office), the voice assistant is probably absent and is instead replaced with Microsoft’s Cortana or Apple’s Siri.

For Mac users, you’re stuck with Siri which, by the way, isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be, especially on the desktop. And believe me, anyone will agree if they’ve used a second virtual assistant before. It’s rather slow, it’s not exactly feature-packed, and it’s really limited in terms of what it can do to get you through the day. So for those who may own an Amazon Echo or have used one before, they may wish they had Alexa on their Mac. Well folks, as is the case with many out-of-the-ordinary wishes, there’s an app for that.

Specifically, the app is called Reverb for Amazon Alexa, and it’s available not just for Mac but also iPhone and iPad. It allows you to access Alexa through an interface that resembles an Echo and supports third-party Skills, smart home control, and more.

Once downloaded and installed, Reverb will require you to punch in your Amazon account credentials in order for the app to learn more about you. You’ll also have access to services and Skills you’ve already connected to Alexa on one of your other devices. In addition, Alexa v2 is being used in this case, enabling more functions such as news flashes, alarms, timers, audiobooks, and more.

Unfortunately, music control isn’t supported due to Amazon placing restrictions in the way of accessing their Music services within third-party apps, but you still have all the other functions of Alexa nonetheless.

If you wanna give Reverb a test run and experience Alexa for yourself, you’re in luck as the app is available for free for the Mac here and iOS devices here.
