HTC has announced on a conference call (via Phonescoop) that they’re not making cheap phones anymore, therefore leaving the low-end handset market for good. Instead, they’ll focus on flagships and high-end devices that can generate higher gross margins.
The shift will be taking place later this year, with HTC stating they’ll still support previous mid-range and budget smartphones they made over the years. Of course, with the news that HTC will release 6 or 7 phones this year, there’s still some devices in the works besides the recently introduced U Ultra. But now that we know they won’t be cheap, it’ll be interesting to see which of the handsets stand out on top amongst the rest throughout 2017.
