Apple’s Single Sign-In Can Now Be Used with HBO Go

Almost two months ago, Apple finally released their Single Sign-On feature for iOS and tvOS users, allowing the public to sign into their cable provider once and automatically be signed into all supported apps. At the time of launch, the below list contained the only services supported.

  • A&E (iOS only)
  • Bravo Now (tvOS only)
  • E! Now (tvOS only)
  • Hallmark Channel Everywhere (iOS and tvOS)
  • History (iOS only)
  • Lifetime (iOS only)
  • NBC (tvOS only)
  • Syfy Now (tvOS only)
  • Telemundo Now (tvOS only)
  • USA NOW (tvOS only)
  • Watch HGTV (iOS and tvOS)
  • Watch Food Network (iOS and tvOS)
  • Watch Cooking Channel (iOS and tvOS)
  • Watch DIY (iOS and tvOS)
  • Watch Travel Channel (iOS and tvOS)

Obviously, over time, the list began expanding, adding services such as ESPN and Watch ABC. And today, another item has been added: HBO Go. HBO has announced that their Go service now supports Single Sign-On, making the subscription service more easily accessible.

By linking your HBO Go account to your Apple TV or iPhone/iPad, you’ll see new content pop up in the “What’s New” feed found within the new TV app on tvOS and iOS. In addition, you’ll be able to search for content from the service either by using your keyboard or via Siri.

While HBO has made their subscription service available with Single Sign-On, services such as Netflix and Hulu still have yet to build in support for their customers. Even cable providers such as Comcast and Verizon still aren’t cooperating, a staggering statistic that isn’t helpful in Single Sign-On’s adoption. That said, we should see these types of services launch soon with support for Apple’s simple way to sign in, but no promises.
