Microsoft’s CEO is Joining Starbucks’ Board of Directors

Via a press release today, Starbucks announced that they’ve nominated Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella to join their board of directors. After soon-to-be-ex CEO Howard Schultz (the guy who’s credited for bringing a modern, technology-focused approach to Starbucks locations everywhere) is replaced this April after submitting his resignation, the coffee chain will need someone to lead the technological focus Starbucks has developed. And who better to fit that role than the CEO of Microsoft?

“I’m honored to have been nominated to join the Board of this world-renowned company,” said Nadella. “As a regular customer myself, I’ve always admired Starbucks focus and deep passion for its customers and the communities it does business in and hope my years of experience in the technology industry will be of value to the company.”

In recent memory, it’s clear to see Microsoft and Starbucks have a bit of history together, with the latter being among the first to offer third-party apps and services for some of the former’s products, while both companies are based near Seattle. Starbucks says Nadella will bring “extensive experience and an understanding of how technology will be used and experienced around the world” to the table, while he will “provide the Board with invaluable insight in international operations and distribution as Starbucks continues to focus on innovative ways to use technology to elevate the brand and grow its business.” Nadella’s worked at Microsoft since 1992, so there’s definitely plenty of experience under his belt to take on the role.
