Google’s Nexus 6 is Now Getting Android 7.1.1 Nougat

Last month, a statement sent over to Android Police confirmed that Google’s Nexus 6 from 2014 would receive Android 7.1.1 Nougat even though it wasn’t a part of the list of devices that got the update when it initially began rolling out earlier in December. Of course, we didn’t exactly know when that time would come, but we now know that it’s right now as the official factory and OTA images for the update have been posted and are available for download and installation on your device.

In addition, the official over-the-air update is also rolling out to Nexus 6 users, but there’s no telling when you can expect the update. If you’re anxious, head to Settings > About phone > Software Update.

Even though the Nexus 6 is almost three years old at this point, Google’s attempts to keep it up to date with all of their other devices are an indication that the company isn’t ready to entirely dedicate their time and effort to the Pixel and Pixel XL. Since the Nexus userbase has grown over the years, it wouldn’t be right to leave these folks out in the cold and just focus on things to come. Of course, Nougat may be the final major OS upgrade for the Nexus 6 (at least officially), but at least owners of the 5.96-inch handset have still been hung onto for another year.
