A new update to the iOS and Android Twitter apps enables a new functionality we just saw launch on both Facebook and Instagram. Rather having to jump to the Periscope app, you can now broadcast live from within the Twitter app by going to the new tweet button and hitting “Live.” This comes as live broadcasting reaches its peak interest in consumers in years.

Starting today, you can create and Tweet live video from the Twitter app, powered by Periscope. To go live, compose a Tweet, then tap “LIVE” which brings you to pre-broadcast screen where you can frame your shot. When you’re ready, press “Go Live” to start broadcasting.

It’s worth mentioning that live streaming from within Twitter is powered by Periscope, so really you’ll be performing a Periscope within Twitter without jumping back and forth between apps. In addition, both regular Twitter users and Periscope users can see your broadcasts, so a wider audience can now be attracted to your live streams.

As integration with Periscope, acquired by Twitter in 2013, grows stronger and the world of going live becomes more popular, a feature like this may attract more users to the social giant’s platform and hopefully decrease the number of users already using services like Facebook Live. Of course, many users use Periscope already, so it looks like Twitter hopes their current user count increases by a large amount thanks to embedded live streaming within their official apps. Nevertheless, with an uphill battle seen in the distance for all companies looking for the perfect live streaming solution, competition will only get stiffer as time goes on and more platforms begin emerging.

If you wanna try out live streaming from within the Twitter app, get the update from the App Store and Google Play.
