Nokia’s Making a Return to Smartphones with Android in 2017

Nokia hasn’t had the greatest reputation with smartphones and tablets. Their partnership with Microsoft ended abruptly with the company phasing out the Nokia brand in favor of Lumia which remains in a failing stage, while the company’s attempt at an iPad mini clone running Android didn’t go over well with the public. But back in May of this year, Nokia announced plans for future phones that they’d soon begin developing, and it now looks like the time has come for more on this topic…

Thanks to a newly-launched webpage on the company’s website, we’re now aware that Nokia plans to begin releasing Android-powered smartphones in 2017. To be more specific, the first of the devices will make its way to market in the first half of 2017 (via The Verge). This is all thanks to a recent licensing agreement with HMD Global (HMD) Nokia is currently finalizing which will place the company’s upcoming smartphones under their new partner as a result of this deal being a brand licensing deal that’ll last for at least 10 years.

In addition, for those interested, you can sign up for updates about Nokia’s upcoming Android phones on its new “Phones” page.

Exact specs, pricing, and specific release dates for the upcoming Nokia-branded Android handsets isn’t currently known, but with December being the final month of 2016, we shouldn’t have to wait much longer for more details.

While Nokia hasn’t had the cleanest track record with devices of this nature, many are anticipating that this could be the company’s big comeback, myself included. If we manage to get our hands on any of the company’s upcoming handsets, we’ll be sure to let you know.
