Netflix Now Lets Users Download Content for Offline Playback

For some time now, competitors like Amazon Prime Video have allowed their users to download content to their devices for offline playback in low or no internet connection locations such as airplanes, subways, and car rides. However, Netflix, one of the most popular entertainment streaming platforms on planet Earth, have decided to keep this feature away from their subscribers, therefore causing an inconvenience of sorts for those who tend to travel a lot or don’t have a cellular data plan (e.g. most people with a tablet) and rarely have an internet connection. But in a new press release published today, it looks like the platform is performing a 180 as they’re now rolling out offline playback compatibility for both iOS and Android users.

While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we’ve often heard they also want to continue their Stranger Things binge while on airplanes and other places where Internet is expensive or limited. Just click the download button on the details page for a film or TV series and you can watch it later without an internet connection.

For now, only Netflix-owned titles can be downloaded to your device for offline playback such as Orange is The New Black, Narcos and The Crown, however Netflix says more titles will be added as time goes on. Nevertheless, it’s nice to see the feature finally present.

To get offline playback for Netflix on your device, head over to the App Store or Play Store on your iOS or Android device (respectively) and update the app. Netflix doesn’t indicate which version number to look for, but any future update to the app you notice should bring the feature.
