Moto Formally Announces Moto M Smartphone in China w/ Mid-Range Specs for ¥1,999 ($295)

There’s certainly been no lack of leaks surrounding the Moto M smartphone, with the most recent revealing almost everything there is to know about the handset. Now, leakers with “exclusive” information will no longer be able to write about the ‘upcoming’ Moto M as Moto has formally announced the device in China, confirming most of our expectations.

For starters, the Moto M features an all-metal unibody with an anodized finish. This should make for not only a nice feel in the hand, but likely no grip whatsoever. On the front, Moto packs a 5.5-inch 1920×1080 display with 2.5D glass placed on top for protection. Inside, an octa-core 2.2GHz MediaTek Helio P15 processor lives alongside 4GB of RAM (an amount not commonly found inside mid-range handsets), 32GB of internal storage that’s expandable via a microSD card, Android Marshmallow out of the box, a 3050mAh battery, a USB-C port for charging and data transfer, 802.11ac Wi-Fi (thank God), Bluetooth 4.1, and NFC. There’s also a fingerprint sensor mounted to the back of the phone for security.

Camera wise, the Moto M packs a 16MP sensor on the back and an 8MP sensor on the front. These sensors are likely similar to other Moto handsets that have come out in 2016, so don’t have high expectations.

All in all, the Moto M looks promising. It’s coming to China for ¥1,999 (about $295), is available in Silver and Gold, and may make its way to other regions, but that’s not confirmed. We will, of course, let you know if anything changes.
