Microsoft Upgrades the Surface Book w/ an Intel Core i7, 16HR Battery, Better Graphics

Today at their event, Microsoft unveiled their latest Surface Book. No, there’s no fresh body or design tweak. Everything in this new model is happening under the hood, hence the name Surface Book i7.

Yes, in the latest Surface Book Microsoft included the latest generation Intel Core i7 processor for faster performance over the previous models. They also upgraded the battery life to last 16 hours, as apparently users of “any Windows 10 laptop” seem to be begging for more battery life. In addition, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M GPU is now built in to push 1.9 teraflops of graphics performance. That’s a lot of graphics performance, people.

To keep all this fresh hardware cool, Microsoft doubled up on the fans in the latest Surface Book by installing (you guessed it!) another fan to blow on the elements and keep air moving constantly. This Microsoft says will not only improve performance a lot, but battery life as well. All in all, if you’ve held off from getting a Surface Book, now’s probably a good time to get one.

Of course, with upgraded internals means an upgraded price, and Microsoft doesn’t skimp out in this department. For the Surface Book i7 with 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, you’ll be paying a hefty $2399. For the model with 512GB of storage and 16GB of RAM, the price comes to $2799. And in case you need basically unlimited space on your laptop/tablet, Microsoft’s selling the new Surface Book with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage for a pretty crazy $3299. Hmm, that last-generation Surface Book is starting to look at bit more appealing…

Preorders are currently live for the Surface Book i7 at, while the company says the device will launch on November 10th.
