A new benchmark via GFXBench spotted by 9to5Google claims to have leaked the specifications of the smaller Nexus smartphone that will be released alongside the flagship Nexus Google will launch later this year. This new report seems to line up with a previous article we wrote about a number of specs leaked about the upcoming Nexus, so we may be able to base our expectations off of them now.
Known internally as the Nexus ‘Sailfish’, this device is reported to feature a 5-inch display with a 1080p resolution, a Snapdragon 820 processor clocked in at 2.1GHz, an Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB of RAM, a 12MP rear camera, an 8MP front camera, and an operating system known as Nougat Manufacturer Release 1. This is likely the identification Google simply gave the final version of Android Nougat that will be released when the company launches the updated OS to the public. But nonetheless, these specs are pretty much identical to the ones found in the previous leak.
According to other reports, the ‘Sailfish’ will include a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor which will allow users to make a swiping gesture on to access their notifications, while a USB-C port and a bottom-firing speaker are also expected. There’s also supposedly going to be a new launcher called the Nexus Launcher that will be loaded on both the ‘Sailfish’ and ‘Marlin’ Nexus devices that will look like this.
We’ll keep you posted on the latest happenings in the 2016 Nexus world as we approach the unveiling date for the devices!
