Almost two months ago, we went hands-on with Google Keyboard 5.1 which was found inside the latest developer preview of Android N (now called Nougat) at the time and included plenty of different themes to choose from to further customize your keyboard. Now, in an unexpected way, Google is rolling out the update via the Play Store to all Keyboard users who support 5.1.

In our hands-on, we discussed Google Keyboard 5.1’s new theming options. This included a baker’s dozen different preset looks you could give your keyboard to make it more personal. In addition, you can also choose to add one of your own pictures as a backdrop to your keyboard so it gets that much more unique and better to your liking. I tend to opt into this level of customization frequently.

As far as additional tweaks and features made to Google Keyboard in v5.1, that’s about it. Everything else you love about Google Keyboard 5.0 can be found in 5.1 like the sweet numbers pane that pops up alongside suggested emojis, one-handed mode, multiple different sizes, and more.

To get Google Keyboard 5.1, wait for it to hit your device via the Play Store. If you’re in a rush, download the APK from here.
