In case you didn’t hear, Instagram recently celebrated a major milestone. There’s now more than 500 million monthly active users on the social platform. So, since the photo sharing app is owned by Facebook, who else would be seen celebrating than Mark Zuckerberg? … Via Facebook?
I know you should really be paying attention to Zuck’s giant Instagram post cutout, however me alongside the rest of the internet are looking at his computer. It’s obviously a MacBook Pro, but there’s some interesting factors to it.
If you look closely, you’ll notice two pieces of duct tape over the microphone on the left side of the MacBook and over the web camera at the top of the screen. There’s no reasonable explanation for this other than the fact that this is probably to make sure hackers can’t get into his computer and start operating his web cam and listen to anything coming through his microphone. I find this to be pretty clever and one of those things where you kinda say, “Huh. Why didn’t I think of that?”
In case you’re not aware, there’s some hackers out there that can turn on your mic and web cam on your computer/laptop without you knowing and view and hear anything going on in your personal life. And Zuck knows, this, so he obviously took precautionary measures before hand. Smart.
I believe there’s a quote from a pretty famous book that praises the uesfulness of duct tape, especially since it can be used on Mars.
“Yes, of course duct tape works…duct tape works anywhere. Duct tape is magic and should be worshiped.”
― Andy Weir,
Couldn’t’ve said it better myself.
Of course, I’m sure Zuck’s MacBook is encrypted for one and highly secured by a team of professionals since…y’know, he’s the CEO of Facebook. But to see this after we learned a while ago just how much this guy spends on security is kinda funny. I thought this was a rather interesting discovery and that’s why I had to share it with you guys.
