Apple Axes the Thunderbolt Display

overview_hero1

Word has been brought to us today that Apple’s Thunderbolt Display – which works like any other monitor – has been discontinued officially and will not be manufactured any longer. A statement given to TechCrunch explains that this discontinuation is official, however the remainder of units available will be sold through Apple’s variant outlets until supply runs out.

“We’re discontinuing the Apple Thunderbolt Display. It will be available through Apple.com, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers while supplies last. There are a number of great third-party options available for Mac users,” said an Apple spokesperson.

It’s been rumored that Apple’s planning to refresh the Thunderbolt Display with a 4K or 5K option which would include a pre-installed GPU to push the amount of pixels from one of the company’s current Macs, however as of now it appears we’ll have to take this speculation with a grain of salt and hope that it comes true.
