NVIDIA has begun to roll out Android 6.0 Marshmallow to their Shield Android TV. This comes three weeks after the company began rolling out version 6.0 of Android to the original Shield Tablet which left many Shield TV owners with the question of when they were getting Marshmallow, and it looks like today their question has been answered.

shieldsThe first change NVIDIA made in version 6.0 of Android for the Shield TV was a redesign of the Google Play Store to better suit bigger TV screens. This is a great move NVIDIA made as not too many people were liking the Play Store on Lollipop for the Shield TV.

Another change found in the latest update is new backgrounds for the home screen. What’s more, you can now also reorder apps and game tiles, along with recommendations, in settings. Users can also now use Marshmallow’s ability to covert SD cards or external USB storage into encrypted internal storage on their Shield TVs, which will be especially useful when users have large content libraries.

Users also have the ability to change the resolution on Ultra HD TVs and control dynamic range. The new Vulcan API has also been gained support by Marshmallow for the Shield TV, which will allow supported games to access the device’s graphics hardware. Also, apps like HBO Now, HBO GO, Twitch and games like Tomb Raider, Minecraft, and Grand Theft Auto have received optimizations for the Shield TV.

Users should be expecting the update within the coming days as the software begins to roll out.
